U.S.-Based Research Division of a European Telecommunications Carrier
Project: Management team development through training and executive coaching
Background:
An R & D center for a large European telecommunications carrier was established in the U.S. to do research in both technology and business innovation. The workforce was young and diverse. The management team had been pulled together on the basis of technical skill, and needed basic management skills training and coaching in a number of specific areas in order to increase its effectiveness with the employees they supervised.
Assignment:
CMCT was engaged through one of its strategic partners to help develop the management team through a series of special topics training seminars and executive coaching as needed.
Intervention:
Over the course of two years, CMCT and its strategic partner collaborated to provide the management team with customized training in topics ranging from diversity management and sexual harassment prevention to conflict resolution and building high-performance teams. CMCT also helped develop a more streamlined performance evaluation process and trained managers in how to carry out performance evaluation. Finally, CMCT undertook a long-term coaching engagement to help the executive overseeing operations, human resources and finance deal with a number or organizational issues.
Result:
Improved functioning of individual managers and of the management team as a whole. More systematic and results-oriented performance evaluation in the company. Resolution of a number of organizational issues.
