Case Study #21: A Human Capital Solutions Company with a Recruiting Team Located in India
Project: Customized “Working with Americans” webcast training programs for recruiters in India
Background:
A U.S. human solutions company set up a wholly-owned subsidiary in India to assist with locating U.S.-based job candidates for companies in the U.S., taking advantage of time zone differences to handle around-the-clock recruitment activities. Cross-cultural issues emerged around resume research assignments, the handling of recruitment phone calls and “selling” candidates to clients.
Assignment:
Customize “Working with Americans” training to the specific context of recruitment interactions and deliver webcast training sessions to the teams in India.
Intervention:
After a needs assessment process to determine the specific areas of cross-cultural friction experienced in recruitment interactions, CMCT designed and delivered a series of webcast trainings to the recruiters in India. Trainings included general knowledge about American business culture and preferred communications styles along with specific protocols and real-life scenarios based on situations encountered in the context of candidate research and recruitment. It also provided an opportunity for the participants to identify areas in which the behaviors of the U.S. teams baffled or frustrated them. Project wrap-up included a detailed debrief with the U.S. managers and recommendations for change.
Result:
Immediate improvement in the specific targeted areas of behavior and communication, and improved relations between the Indian teams and the home office in San Francisco as a result of better job performance and results.
Key Disciplines:
Training Needs Assessment, Training Program Development, Cross-Cultural Training, Cross-Cultural Consulting, Organizational Development.
